Distilled from freshly picked laurel leaves in northern Greece, this is an oil of authority and strength. Deeply aromatic, warming, and clarifying, Greek Laurel has been treasured for both body and spirit.

The Story

Laurel (Laurus nobilis) grows wild and cultivated across Greece, but the oil distilled in Chalkidiki carries a particular depth — shaped by sun, sea air, and mineral-rich soil. Its aroma is green, warm, and slightly camphorous, with a grounding sharpness that feels both protective and energising.

In ancient Greece, laurel was never ordinary. It was a symbol of higher status. It crowned victors, poets, physicians, and seekers of truth. Sacred to Apollo, god of light, knowledge and healing, the bay laurel was believed to sharpen the mind and guard the body. At Delphi, the priestess Pythia is said to have chewed laurel leaves before delivering prophecy, entering altered states through its potent botanical force.

This essential oil carries that lineage forward — distilled slowly from freshly harvested leaves to preserve its complexity and power. It is an oil for moments that call for clarity, resilience, and inner steadiness.

Historical notes:

According to Greek mythology, the nymph Daphne was transformed into a bay laurel tree by her father (the river god Ladon) to save her from the unwanted affections of the god Apollo. This is howbay tree became a symbol of Apollo, god of music, poetry, art, oracles, truth, archery, plague, medicine, healing, sun, light and knowledge.

The Greeks considered bay laurel as a medicine that could protect against diseases, especially against the plague. It was often devoted to Asclepios, the son of Apollo and the god of medicine.Greek physician, Hippocrates of Kos (c. 460 – c. 370 BC), known as the "Father of Medicine", used all parts of the plant as a remedy for a variety of ailments, both internally and externally.

Today, bay laurel is perhaps best known for the laurel wreaths of the ancient Greece. They were a symbol of high status as well as a sign of academic distinction (‘poet laureate’ and ‘baccalaureate’ derive from that) and victory. They were awarded as a prize at the Pythian Games.
